Community Giving at Manulife Financial
The generosity of our own employees

Our employees have inspired and contributed to many of our community efforts. Whether it’s swinging a hammer for Habitat for Humanity, running, walking or cycling to raise money for a good cause, or serving food to the needy, our employees bring a lot of heart to their communities.

To recognize and support the causes that are important to them, Manulife provides an Employee Engagement Fund. It’s our way to say thank you to our employees for helping to make our communities better places to live and work.

The Employee Engagement Fund includes three programs:

Helping Hands supports our employees’ volunteer efforts by providing $500 grants to charities where they volunteer 25 hours or more annually. In 2007, we have issued more than $70,000 in Helping Hands grants.

PowerMatch is a program that supports employees’ fundraising efforts. Employees who collect pledges for a registered charity fundraising event (for example, Weekend to End Breast Cancer, Terry Fox Run, Run for the Cure, Manulife Walk for Memories), can apply for a matching donation up to $150. Since the program started in September 2007, we have issued more than $7,000 in PowerMatch grants.

The Manulife United Way campaign supports the social needs of our communities through an employee match program. Employee, retiree and advisor donations are matched dollar for dollar to a maximum of $5,000. With the company’s matching donation included, Canadian-based employees (Corporate Division and Canadian Division) contributed more than $3 million to their communities through the United Way.

Other employee initiatives:

Habitat for Humanity
Since 2005, Manulife employees in Canada have donated more than 20,000 volunteer hours to help build twelve Manulife-sponsored homes through Habitat for Humanity organizations in Toronto, Kitchener-Waterloo and Halifax. Employees enthusiastically don hard hats and construction boots and get to work, making the dream of home ownership a reality for their sponsored families. Manulife supports employee participation by offering one day off with pay for employees to take part in a local build.

Manulife-Sponsored Community Events
Our employees’ enthusiastic participation in Manulife-sponsored charitable events is truly inspiring. Year after year, they continue to participate on their own time, and often on weekends, to support events such as the Manulife Bike & Hike for Heart in Kitchener-Waterloo; the Manulife Run for Research in Toronto; Manulife Walk for Memories across Ontario; and
the Manulife Dragon Boat Festival in Halifax.
