Manulife Hong Kong Web site wins Web Care Award
for “No Barrier Web Site”

Hong Kong – Manulife Hong Kong’s Web site, www.manulife.com.hk, has recently won the Web Care Award organized by the Internet Professionals Association (iProA). The award, which has been instituted this year, recognizes organizations and companies that provide barrier-free Internet service that is accessible to everyone in the community, including those with sight impairment, the elderly and the physically handicapped.

“At Manulife, we are not only concerned about providing benefits to our customers and investors, but also the special needs of the community we serve,” said Celly Hall, Assistant Vice President of e-Business for Asia, Manulife Financial.

“Although Internet penetration rates in Hong Kong are high, people with special needs still encounter difficulties when accessing different Web sites. We have consciously tried to overcome this divide and are very honoured to have had our efforts recognized in this way,” said Ms Hall.

The Web Care Award is given to organizations that have achieved excellence in look, functionality, user-friendliness and effective communication of ideas in the development of “no barrier Web sites.” Based on these criteria, a judging panel formed by 11 organizations selected the Manulife Hong Kong Web site from among hundreds of entrants. Manulife Hong Kong is one of only 26 organizations to receive the Web Care Award.

The iProA was set up in 1999. It is a non-profit organization committed to advance the art and science of Internet technology and its applications in Hong Kong. IProA launched the Web Care Campaign in 2001 with an aim to bridge digital divide.
