Manulife received Caring Company Award for corporate citizenship efforts

Hong Kong – Manulife (International) Limited (MIL) received the title of “Caring Company” from the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS), in recognition of its ongoing efforts in community involvement. Manulife was among the first group of Hong Kong companies awarded with the Caring Company Logo at the Caring Company Award Presentation Ceremony officiated by the Acting Chief Executive of HKSAR Government, the Hon. Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, yesterday.

“This award is a tribute to the enthusiasm displayed by our insurance advisors and employees in volunteerism and community service,” said David Wong, Vice President of Distribution, Hong Kong, MIL. “This enthusiasm, combined with our ongoing commitments towards charitable activities in Hong Kong, has enabled us to meet the criteria set by the HKCSS.”

Manulife has been involved in many long-term community initiatives, such as the establishment of the Manulife Charitable Foundation, which has sponsored the Manulife Centre for Children with Specific Learning Disabilities in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University since 1999.

The company’s volunteerism efforts during 2002 included its involvement in the Walk for Millions campaign where 1,500 employees, insurance advisors and family participated; its Blood Donation Drive, where more than 500 employees, insurance advisors and customers donated blood in one day; and sponsorship of the Haven of Hope Christian Service’s “Qile” Charity Cake Drive to raise funds for care services for elderly people. Manulife also participated in the Hong Kong Child Health Foundation’s campaign to raise awareness of child accident prevention.

“Being a good corporate citizen is part of Manulife’s core values and we are especially committed to the community of Hong Kong where we have had a presence for more than one hundred years,” added Mr. Wong.

This is the inaugural year for the Caring Company Award scheme, which is organized by the HKCSS and aims to build a caring community spirit by cultivating corporate citizenship and strategic partnership between businesses and the social service sector.

The Caring Company Award scheme recognizes companies that fulfil at least two criteria among the following: volunteerism, being family friendly, employing vulnerable segments, partnering with the social service sector, mentoring of social organizations and giving to the community.
